The Hairy Bear was opened in May 2008 by Andy Goodman, taking over from the successful Te House Bistro.
Why the Hairy Bear? Easy, really. The Hairy Bear is my dog Ceiwyn (Kay-win), a Welsh Terrier. As a pup she looked just like a child’s Teddy Bear and earned the nickname ‘Bear’. We didn’t clip her fur over her first Winter and she became ‘The Hairy Bear’.
We carry on the tradition of sourcing as much of our produce locally, using seasonal, free-range and organic produce where available. We now have our allotment producing organic salad and the majority of our fresh vegetables.
Our Menu changes often depending on what is either freshly caught or at its seasonal peak and we will endeavour to cater for special dietary needs on request. We remain unlicensed, so customers are encouraged to bring wine or beer (corkage charge applies), but we stock a range of Luscombe organic juices, Miles coffee and a selection of Tea.
